Established in 1997, the Democratic Governance and Leadership Program (DGLP) is housed within the Department of Political Science. It operates within the context of a dynamic educational environment that encourages teaching, scholarship, and community service. The DGLP has three primary goals:
Academic Scholarship
To advance our knowledge and understanding of democratic governance and leadership in established and emerging democracies, as well as the potential pathways to democratic governance in non-democracies;
Civic Education
To enhance the quality of undergraduate and graduate education through the promotion of civic education programs, internships, academic seminars, and professional conferences;
Public Outreach
To engage and advance the economic, cultural, civic, and political life of southeastern Massachusetts, other domestic communities, and our global community.
